The following list shows the features which are new in v1.8.

Organiser
Organiser offers a brand new concept in data management and has been designed to replace Index and the Import/Export applications previously found in Tools. Organiser will help you manage your data files and database quickly, consistently and efficiently. You can import a variety of different file types containing occurrence and IGD data to your database or save them in a different file format. Conflicts are highlighted and you are able to edit details of individual data items or entire datasets. In addition, you can make use of functionality previously accessible through separate StrataBugs applications. Early releases of v1.8 will not have all of the functionality in place but we recommend its use for import of DEX files and management of data therein. This application is a prototype for the style planned for future versions of StrataBugs. Organiser has its own powerful Help facility which is accessed separately through this application.
Updater
This new application sits as a separate icon on your desktop and enables you to automatically access the StrataBugs download site for all the latest software revisions.
Wells

TVD Importer
Increased number of possible TVD intervals to 6000 and added data filter and "Clear" button

TWT Importer
Increased number of possible TWT intervals to 18000 and added data filter and "Clear" button

Spud & Completion dates
You can now leave these fields blank if you wish

Casing
Casing diameters can be selected from a drop-down list.
Samples

Allow negative base depths.
It is now possible to enter negative base depths (i.e. in outcrops) when adding a sample.
Taxonomic database

Option to shorten genus names on Overlays
To accommodate long taxon names there is now an option to shorten the genus name on an overlay (Overlay | Shorten genus name).
IGD

Coloured IGD schemes
It is possible to assign user-defined colours to IGD units and optionally display these on charts. (Schemes | [select scheme] | Edit | [select unit] | Edit | colour | [select colour]). The coloured units may also be displayed in the Scheme viewer (File | Open | Scheme viewer | [select scheme])

Charts

Sea Level and Sea Bed
Correlation lines for Sea Level and Sea Bed

Sample range histograms
Histograms can optionally be set to diplay for the full range of depths when sample depth ranges are selected

Label correlation lines
There is an option to label selected correlation lines in a selected font size. (View | Correlation lines | Edit). Another option enables you to disable the labels for all lines in specified “blank” panels (Blank panel | Properties).

Suppress correlation lines in IGD panels
It is now possible to set the Chart preferences so that correlation lines do not pass through IGD panels. This prevents over printing of any text in the IGD panels by the correlation lines (File | Preferences | Chart).

Suppress correlation line end tags
An option to suppress the appearance of correlation line end tags is now available (View | Correlation lines | Edit | Plot indicator tag lines at panel edges).

Re-order correlation lines in chart key
The order of correlation lines is now user definable (View | Correlation lines | Move up/Move down).

Switch off events and composite standard
There is now an option to switch off the display of event names for a well and/or the composite standard in an events panel. This will provide a simple time-depth curve. (Event panel | Properties| Plot event list and Plot event names).

Colour IGD intervals
Colour fill for IGD intervals can now be optionally displayed on a chart (IGD panel | Properties | Plot background colours from scheme).

Fill Lithology background
This new feature enables you to fill all unassigned intervals in lithology panel with a single selected lithology. This will help in intervals where there are for instance numerous thin sands in an overall shale interval (Data mode – right click – select lithology | Fill background)

Systems tracts colours
The colours assigned to systems tracts are now user-definable (File | Preferences | Misc colours).

Plot IPS palaeobathymetry
It is now possible to plot the bathymetric curve derived from IPS in the palaeoenvironment panel (Palaeoenvironment panel | Properties)

Bold well names
There is now an option to change the size of the font when displaying Well Names (Well name panel | Insert | Well names)

Biozone boundary analyst
There is now an option to display the analyst of the sample on which individual biozone boundaries are based (Biozone panel | Properties | Plot analyst).

Append version to biozone panel title
Where there are multiple versions of biozones it is possible to append the version name to the title in the biozone panel (Biozone panel properties).

Split factor option
Option to switch on/off split factor calculation for each taxon panel. (Taxon Distribution panel | Options).

Diversity display in Sets
Diversity calculations for group Sets are now possible if absolute abundance is also selected (Taxon Distribution panel | Style tab).

Spindle diagrams
Spindle diagrams have been introduced as an additional style of quantitative data display (Taxon Distribution panel | Insert | Biostratigraphy | Style tab | Spindles).

Omit depth scale from panel
To avoid possible confusion in plots with very low abundances of some important taxa there is now an option to switch off the horizontal dashed line which provides a depth scale in Taxon distribution panels (Taxon Distribution panel | Properties | Options tab | Show grid).

Plot semi quantitative rank mnemonics
An additional option in the distribution chart options enables the display of semi quantitative rank mnemonics (P, R, C, A, etc.) instead of symbols
(Taxon Distribution panel | Properties | Style tab | Symbols).

Group colours on distribution charts.
There is now an option to display taxa according to their group colour irrespective of where they are on a distribution chart (Panel | Properties | Grouping tab | Colour group set). Taxa must be first assigned to a group and groups to a set, and a different colour selected for each group in the set (File | Preferences | Category and group colours).

Plot abundance values
There is now an option to force the plotting of abundance values outside the sawtooth or histogram display (Taxon Distribution panel | Options). Previously numbers were plotted either inside or outside according to the space available.

Taxon tracking using cross-hair cursor
This new feature enables you to identify a taxon and its depth in a well and abundance by marking it with a cross-hair cursor on a chart panel. To switch on this feature select Data mode. Information is displayed in the tool bar.

Plot header panel enclosure text on left or right
The position of the enclosure text is now selectable (Header panel | Properties)

Well name font size
An optional bold well name in the centre of a chart header panel now with a configurable font size is now available (Header panel | Properties)

Striplog enhancements
Increased options for abundance display of data in Biostratigraphy striplog. Also Sample labels not displayed when "Markers only" option selected (Striplog | Properties).

Plot TD in depth panel
There is now an option to plot the TD in the Depth panel (Depth panel | Properties)

Suppress systems tract lines and colours
It is now possible to suppress the lines and or colours of systems tracts within a Sequence (Sequence panel | Properties).

Core corrected depths for Lithology
A new option enables you to correct the lithology display against log depths or core/cuttings corrected depths (Interpreted Lithology panel | Properties).

Index (now in Tools)

Option to export depth range for dual depth samples.

Export lithologies as CSV files.

Export Well names for IGD CSV Export.

Numerous small modifications to maintain the integrity of data during export.
