Intervals: Fill Hierarchy dialog

This dialog is used to create one or more higher level intervals from an existing list of intervals. It uses the boundary ages in the stratigraphic scheme to determine the higher order intervals to be created. Filling the hierarchy in this way means you avoid having to enter any intervals other than those at the lowest level of detail.

Note: no intervals spanning a range of units are created. This means that if the lower level interval is linked to a range of units from the scheme (i.e. upper and lower units are specified), no higher level interval will be generated UNLESS the entire unit range of the lower interval falls within one higher level unit in the scheme.

Options

You can select the levels which you wish to generate.

The sample gap options determine whether the new intervals are joined across any sample gaps between successive intervals. If the intervals are contiguous, then the higher order intervals will be continuous. The option selected here will depend on your confidence that the gaps between intervals do not contain anything other than the higher order interval that would be created.
