Well : Select Master dialog
You will only see this dialog if your administrator has set up a database "view" to allow you to see corporate well header master tables. This dialog can be reached from the "Select" button on the Well : Add/Edit dialog. Use it to link a StrataBugs well to an existing well from the corporate data store.
The dialog works in much the same way as the regular Well : Select dialog: you enter search criteria for the well name, code and/or country, and press Search. You must enter a search term in at least one of the fields, to avoid unrestricted searches on potentially very large tables.
You may only select one of the search results. When you select a well the field data is copied into the StrataBugs well you are adding or editing.
Keeping well information up-to-date
Once the StrataBugs well header code is linked to the code in the wells "master" view, each time you access the well using StrataBugs, a check will be performed against the corresponding well header in the corporate data store to automatically update any changted data fields. This will mean that the coordinate information, spud/completion dates or depth reference information may change form what was initially entered. The administrator can choose exactly which fields may be updated.
The advantage of keeping the header tables separate is that you may enter StrataBugs wells which do not exist in the corporate data store. This nay becuase they are new drilling wells which have yet to be added, or they might be outcrops sections which not part of the corporate well data store, but which contain useful data for StrataBugs studies.
