Event: Add/Edit dialogs

This dialog enables you to create a new event or edit an existing one within the Event Dictionary. More about events...

If the event is based on a taxon, press the ellipses (...) next to the Taxon name field to open the Select Taxon dialog. When you select a taxon, the Event name field also fills with the taxon name, but this can be changed as required.

If the event is not based on a taxon, the Event name can be typed in directly.

The abbreviation is optional and can be used in various chart panels and correlations to display a shorter name.

The permitted event types must be specified here. The prefixes for each type of event in their contexts are displayed in grey as the default, but you can override these. (The defaults are set in the control panel under Config | Event Prefixes, and you must be a super user to change these). Events are defined by a combination of their names and prefixes, so you can have multiple events with the same name and different prefixes e.g. FDO, FCDO etc.

The Use to generate top or base option tells system to choose this event (over other events based on the same taxon) when generating top and base range events from the taxon occurrences in sample analyses. Generally, only simple events based on a single taxon name (i.e. not abundance or other events) should have this option checked on. Only one event per taxon may have this flag.

The Description field is optional. Remember that composite standard events and well events both have their own reference/comment fields, which may be more appropriate.
